Abstract
Gunasekaran et al demonstrate that human neonatal Mesenchymal Stem Cells (nMSCs) evade from macrophage mediated phagocytosis via increased CD47 expression and to promote functional recovery by secretion of exosomes and independent cytokines. The increased phagocytosis and reduced CD47 expression in aMSCs are regulated by microRNA-34a. In conclusion, our data identify a novel cell type with immune evasion, modulation and translational potential to demonstrate nMSCs as superior cell type that can be successfully translated to the clinic.
